“Femmes de rizières” was founded in 2017 with the goal of creating a social brand that markets the work produced in the tailoring workshop at the Safe House in Battambang. Since then, around 100 young women have successfully completed their tailoring training. The aim is to enable some of these women to achieve professional independence, allowing them to be financially self-sufficient while also maintaining the flexibility to care for their children.
The brand “Femmes des rizières” is built on two strengths: the tailoring workshop, where apprentices are trained annually, and the incredible attention to detail that Cambodian women show when making accessories. These women turn adversity into opportunity, which provides a significant advantage in the brand’s development.
The collection consists of clothing, accessories, and lifestyle products made from locally sourced fabrics (Sarong, Krama). Distribution will occur both locally and internationally.
In search of authenticity, the choice was made to feature the checkered Krama, the traditional Cambodian cloth that is used as a scarf, sun protection, or even a baby hammock. Along with the traditional floral Sarong fabrics, the Krama, the national symbol of Cambodia, is at the heart of our collection. This collection is continuously developed with great attention to detail and a high standard of quality.
After successful brand presentations, such as at the Atelier Days, we are currently working on building distribution in Cambodia.
The logo is inspired by the Apsaras, the goddesses and dancers of Angkor Wat. They symbolize beauty, grace, and feminine energy. The Apsaras, originating from Hindu mythology, are depicted as enchanting nymphs with indescribable power and elegance.
Their dance tradition, the Apsara Dance, has influenced Cambodian culture and Thai dance. Today, the Apsaras represent the purest and most delicate form of femininity, constantly adapting to modern times while never losing their essence.
“Femmes des rizières” is a tribute to all women. Our creations, inspired by the rice fields of Cambodia, are made for women around the world – as friends, mothers, daughters, sisters, or partners. We celebrate the Apsara in every woman.
