World Farmers’ Day (June 1) was first celebrated in 2000 in connection with the World Expo in Hanover and then proclaimed by the UN and UNESCO in 2002. It is a reminder that farmers are responsible for the production of food worldwide. However, “the farmer” has many faces.
We are delighted that new “farmer faces” will soon be joining us: the Maasai of Olpirikata! With this in mind, today we are also thinking of the Maasai population in Olpirikata (Kenya), where the large farm project will soon be realized. The Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Bologna has already determined the ideal plants for the local soil and conditions. The ground-breaking ceremony is in July!
