Mperrishi is located in the Kisamis Zone, Keekonyokie Central in Kajiado County – about 90 km southwest of Nairobi and approximately 20 km from the nearest trading center, Oltepesi. Around 5,000 people, mostly Maasai, liver here traditionally from livestock herding. There is no medical care, and clean water is a rare and precious resource.
In 2001, committed parents founded a primary school to finally give their children access to education. But the way to school was long and difficult – the school was only officially recognized in 2016. Until then, regular lessons were hardly possible.
Today, ten teachers educate around 200 children – and the number is rising. Yet many parents still hesitate to send their children to school as long as essentials like food and water are lacking.
Since 2022, WeCare-Association has delivered 20,000 liters of water every month to Mperrishi. In addition, we fund a school feeding program, which was expanded in 2025 to include a warm and nutritious porridge meal. The impact is visible: enrollment is rising, and parents’ trust is growing. Especially in times of drought, this support is vital for survival.
The next step is the construction of a 200-meter-deep borehole. It will provide:
The borehole will not just be built – it will be responsibly managed:
The total cost for drilling, the pump, and the infrastructure is approximately CHF 45, 000. The expected lifespan is 25 years, with annual depreciation of around CHF 1,800. The community itself will take responsibility for operation and maintenance.
