Regular school meals are one of the most effective tools for promoting education in rural regions. A reliable meal directly improves children’s concentration, health and ability to learn. At the same time, school attendance increases and parents send their children to school more regularly.
The WeCare-Association specifically supports schools in the Kajiado district with school feeding programs – supplemented by water deliveries in places where food preparation would otherwise not be possible.
2025 a total of 245,160 meals were provided in three schools with around 750 pupils.
Since their introduction schools have been monitoring the following:
– rising pupil numbers
– falling absence rates
– better concentration in lessons
– quieter classes
– more stable school operations
– greater motivation among parents
Teachers unanimously report that children who are well fed cooperate more actively and that lessons can be structured more reliably.
√ local implementation
√ Transparent costs

√ small organization – direct help
The average costs are as follows:
CHF 41 per child per year
This includes – depending on the school:
– daily meals
– sometimes two meals a day
– vacation supplies
– water deliveries
– transport to remote regions
– local food procurement
In an international NGO comparison, the program is thus in the efficient range – despite demanding logistics.
School nutrition has an impact not only on individual children, but on entire communities:
– relieving the burden on families
– higher participation in education
– greater parental involvement
– more stable school structures
– better future opportunities
Where children are full, education can have an impact.
With CHF 41 you finance school meals for one child for an entire school year in the Kajiado district. Regular meals improve concentration, school attendance and learning success – and directly relieve the burden on families.
Our school nutrition programs currently reach three schools and hundreds of children – with a measurable impact on enrollment and absenteeism rates.
