In close collaboration with the NGO avec, WeCare-Association is supporting the construction of an 81 m² library at the vocational training center in Battambang. This library is designed to be a safe and inspiring learning space for over 440 underprivileged children – including the 400 students in the English and computer classes and the children living in the Safe House.
The goal is to create a nurturing environment that encourages reading, independent learning, and educational development. The library will be child-friendly and equipped with wall-mounted bookshelves, low tables, floor cushions, and books in both Khmer and English. It will also serve as a psychologically safe haven for children who have experienced trauma.
Cost Item | Description | Amount (USD) |
---|---|---|
Building Construction | 81 m² at USD 300/m² (incl. cement, bricks, windows, doors, tiling, etc.) | 24,300 |
Interior Equipment | Shelves, tables, cushions, storage furniture, computer for cataloguing | 3,000 |
Initial Book Collection | Books in Khmer and English, textbooks, encyclopedias | 2,000 |
Contingency (5%) | Reserved funds for unexpected expenses | 1,465 |
Total Budget | 30,765 |
This library is far more than just a room full of books: it is a symbol of hope, education, and inclusion. The project will be integrated into avec’s existing structure and operted longterm by local staff and trained volunteers.
Another ongoing initiative supported by the WeCare-Association is the social lifestyle brand Femmes des rizières, which offers new opportunities for unemployed and socially disadvantaged women in Battambang.
In a safe and supportive studio environment, women handcraft fashion and lifestyle products using traditional Cambodian sarong fabrics and mostly recycled materials. Participants receive fair payment, and professional training in design, production techniques and quality control.
The project combines aesthetics with social impact: Femmes des rizières stands for slow fashion, transparency, and dignity. Every purchase supports not only fair working conditions but also helps preserve local identity and craftsmanship.
