In close cooperation with the NGO avec, the WeCare Association is supporting the construction of an 81m2 library at the education center in Battambang. The library will serve as a safe place of learning for more than 440 disadvantaged children, including the 400 students of the English and computer courses and the children of the Safe House.
The aim of the project is to create an inspiring environment in which reading, independent learning and education are encouraged. The library is furnished in a child-friendly way, with wall shelves, low tables, cushions and books in Khmer and English. It also provides a psychologically safe space for children who have had traumatic experiences.
Cost item | Description (USD) | Amount (USD) |
---|---|---|
Building construction | 81 m² at USD 300/m² (incl. cement, bricks, windows, doors, tiles, etc.) | 24.300 |
Interior furnishings | Shelves, tables, cushions, furniture, computers to manage the book collection | 3.000 |
Book collection (Start) | Books in Khmer and English, textbooks, encyclopedias | 2.000 |
Contingencies (5 %) | Contingency reserve for unplanned expenditure | 1.465 |

The library is much more than just a place for books: it is a symbol of hope, education and social participation. The project will be integrated into the existing avec structure and run by local staff and trained volunteers on a long-term basis.
Another ongoing project of the WeCare Association is the social lifestyle brand Femmes des rizières, which offers new prospects to unemployed and socially disadvantaged women in Battambang.
Handmade fashion and lifestyle products made from traditional sarong fabrics and predominantly recycled materials are created in a sheltered workshop. The women employed receive fair pay and in-depth training in the areas of design, processing and quality control.
The project combines aesthetic appeal with social impact: Femmes des rizières stands for slow fashion, transparency and dignity. Every purchase not only supports fair working conditions, but also helps to keep local identity and craftsmanship alive.
