Every Meal Counts

In the first six months of 2025, the WeCare-Association financed 57,600 school meals for 662 children in Kenya – a commitment that goes far beyond satisfying hunger. After all, school nutrition is much more than a social gesture – it is a fundamental prerequisite for education, health and equal opportunities.

When hunger prevents learning success

Many children in rural areas of Kenya suffer from chronic malnutrition. This occurs when too little or unbalanced food is consumed over a long period of time – with serious consequences: physical weakness, a weakened immune system and developmental disorders. The brain is particularly affected: studies show that a balanced and regular diet is crucial for concentration, memory and emotional stability. If you’re hungry, you can’t learn – it’s as simple as that.

School nutrition as a door opener to education

A reliable school nutrition program can make all the difference. Children come to school more regularly, stay more focused in class and are less likely to drop out. At the same time, parents are more motivated to send their children to school – because they know that their child is not only learning, but also getting enough to eat.

Breakfast for Mperrishi: A strong start to the school day

In the remote village of Mperrishi, WeCare 2025 has introduced an additional breakfast program. 170 children receive a hot breakfast – a nutritious mixture of ground maize, millet and sorghum, prepared with water and milk – every day during the break at 09:40.
Many children travel a long way to school – often on foot and without breakfast. The daily meal not only strengthens the body, but also self-esteem. Teachers report more alert, more motivated pupils– and significantly more children in class.

School meals are not a minor matter – they are the basis

With every meal we finance, we not only give children food, but also a perspective. We invest in health, education and the future. School feeding programs are one of the most effective tools in the fight against poverty – and a central component of WeCare’s work.

Help – because no child should have to learn hungry.

With just 50 centimes per meal, you give a child energy, concentration and a real chance of an education.
