At home, the sinks and dishwashers stay clean on May 18, 2017, because it’s No Dirty Dishes Day. This crazy holiday was invented in the USA, although the initiator is unknown. On this day, there should be no dirty dishes that need to be washed. The aim of this day is therefore not to pile up the dirty dishes and wash them the next day.
It’s nice to have a choice. At the Safe House in Battambang, there are not only mountains of dishes – three times a day. Dishes are also washed in a very traditional way.
Cooking – just like washing the dishes – is a communal affair. Everyone has to help out for big meals and events. We chop and prepare everything we can. Garlic is also used in relatively large quantities. At least there’s no danger of vampires.
