We have a great deal of respect for local characteristics and are aware that knowledge and awareness of cultural differences are extremely important. It is also important to us that we can get personally involved in the projects and receive feedback on the results. For this reason, we support NGOs that we know personally and that also have a strong local presence.
Corruption is a major problem in Cambodia. It is more widespread than in almost any other Southeast Asian country and is blamed for the fact that foreign funds amounting to around USD 300 million a year are virtually disappearing into thin air. It is therefore very important for us to have a reliable local partner. Patrik and Theavy Bun Roux make sure that our support gets to where it is needed.
Since 2019, we have maintained a close partnership with the professional Kenyan trio: Jane and Agnes Gitonga, together with their daughter/granddaughter Keren. This dynamic team of women is very well connected locally and has extensive experience in dealing with gender-based violence, genital mutilation, abuse and poverty among families and children.
Together they have initiated effective social projects, including the Kings & Queens of Rehoboth School, the Sikhona Rescue Center and the Gihon Women Empowerment Center. Based on their rich experience, they are in the process of founding the Kenyan branch of the WeCare Association. This central point of contact will efficiently coordinate their various social initiatives and offer the community comprehensive support.
